How can we bring more life, light and colour into our paintings? What can we learn about light and colour from other artists? The Impressionsts were adept in the ways they used colour to convey stunning displays of light and shade found in everyday nature. One of the most outstanding masters of this was Claude Monet, and we will use his work as inspiration for this art workshop.

In this art workshop, we will study how colour is used by Monet to create illusions of light and shade, and practise ways of doing this ourselves. Depending on the weather, we will either go outdoors or work from photographs. By the end of the day you will have experimented with several ways of using colour mixing and mark making to create illusions of light and shade, which you can then use as a basis for developing impressionist style paintings of your own.

You can work in any medium of your own choice. There will be demonstrations and plenty of individual tuition in a very small group with a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. You may find it interesting to explore different media during the day to compare what happens.

This art workshop is not suitable for complete beginners - you should have some experience in drawing, colour mixing and paint application.
